*Update* - The service station here burned down recently, but still plenty of traffic- including trucks- stops here. Free showers in the caravan park add an extra perk for the hot and sweaty traveler! :)―Anonymous

Big truck stop where you can ask people for a ride. In the late afternoon, we managed to get 3 of us a ride with some truckies for the 10-hour slog to Broome.―Anonymous

No shade, but slow traffic. Got quickly a ride to Port Hedland.―Bursztyn

I got stuck in Port Hedland for 4.5 hours without a lift, camped next to the road, and waited another 1.5 hours in the morning, and finally got a lift with a girl driving to Monkey Mia!Port Hedland is an industrial town and there are a lot of mine vehicles driving only a short distance here, also a lot of road trains going to and from the port. None of these vehicles stopped in the 6 hours I was there... don't even bother signalling to the road trains.
My advice would be to avoid Port Hedland, and if you do end up there, try and find small lifts to get to the edge of town and then start at or before sunrise to catch the early travellers who are driving long distances.

Not much shade, but there's place for cars to stop before railway. You get whole traffic from Port Hedland leaving the town. Got lucky with couple from NZ all the way to Broome. Took me almost 2 days to get lift (before I stood close to airport).Start early.
You can probably find a spot to camp around, or walk 1 hour to touristic shelter close to airport.

Stood whole day and next morning. Nobody stopped. Shade from a lamp pole. In front touristic shelter with potable water, where you can rest and sleep. Close by truck parking, if you prefer to ask drivers.I walked for 1 hour further and got a ride there.
